ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF VISUAL COMMUNICATION/GRAPHIC DESIGN

Tenure-track faculty position available August 19, 2016. Responsibilities: teach courses to undergraduate BFA Visual Communication/Graphic Design students; engage in professional practice, research, and activities related to the discipline; contribute to curriculum development and departmental service. Minimum qualifications: MFA degree in graphic design, visual communication or an interactive design emphasis; evidence of teaching potential; Apple platform expertise; expertise with current Adobe Creative Suite, current web trends; evidence of appropriate professional and/or creative activity in design; understanding of design history and methodology, conceptual approaches, and various design practices as well as practical applications in a variety of media, including traditional. Preferred qualifications: documented teaching experience at the college or university level beyond graduate assistantships; broad knowledge of contemporary issues in visual culture with the capacity for forward thinking about the role of graphic design in the 21st century; web design skills and familiarity with various relevant web languages.

Assistant Professor Digital Media, Contract Faculty at Ball State University

Assistant Professor, Digital Media

Contract faculty position available August 19, 2016 with possibility of renewal.

Responsibilities: teach from a menu of courses in the School of Art’s Digital and Time Based Art curriculum at basic through advanced levels with the possibility of teaching foundations or specialty courses that expand curriculum with an emphasis on interactivity across intermedia, sculpture, visual communications & animation, as needed.

Minimum qualifications: MFA in Intermedia Arts, Time Based Media, Media Art, or similar appropriate concentration; record of successful undergraduate and/or graduate level teaching experience at a college level; studio practice and teaching that demonstrate skill in any combination of the following: experimental and hybrid applications of digital and electronic time based media art, interactive media, creative coding, physical computing, web based art, sound art, video installation, experimental animation, augmented/virtual reality, 3-D modeling or digital fabrication; a strong and active record of exhibitions or artistic accomplishments; Apple platform expertise, and experience with the Adobe Creative Suite.

Preferred qualifications: two years of teaching experience at the college level; a broad knowledge of the history and theory of Media Art.

Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Contemporary Art at Miami University

Tenure-track assistant professor with specialization in contemporary art (post-1945), beginning August 22, 2016. To complement existing faculty with degree programs in art history, studio, graphic design, and art education. We especially seek candidates whose research bridges discussions of the impact of new media on contemporary art theory and practice and who can therefore foster connections to related disciplines.

Responsibilities include teaching introductory surveys, upper-level courses in contemporary art, undergraduate seminars in area of expertise, and opportunities for graduate classes with MFA students; maintaining a high level of research and scholarly activity consistent with tenure expectations; and service requirements such as committee work, curriculum development, and/or service to student organizations.

Required: Ph.D. in History of Art or related field (by December 31, 2016 for re-appointment to second year). Strong candidates will have a record of scholarly activity and teaching experience.
