Assistant Professor, Animation, University of South Florida
The School of Art and Art History at the University of South Florida invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track faculty position #3233 at the rank of Assistant Professor in Animation to begin August 7, 2019.
Minimum Qualifications: MFA in Animation; or MFA in Studio Art, Filmmaking, or relevant field with significant professional experience in Animation. Applicants should have demonstrable experience in creative applications of moving image animation with an emphasis in 2D and/or 3D animation. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical and theoretical foundation, as well as an expansive approach that embraces the evolving role of the moving image in society. The candidate should have the ability to teach a range of skill sets including digital and traditional, as well as innovative methods and approaches to animation. The applicant must be able to develop new curricula, and teach courses ranging from undergraduate non-majors to art specialization majors, as well mentoring and teaching graduate students in an interdisciplinary MFA program. Applicant will demonstrate teaching and research experiences that address current issues. Knowledge of current practices, techniques, technology, and issues as related to teaching animation is required.
Preferred Qualifications: The candidate will have a record of producing and presenting original creative work at the national / international level. They will have the ability to help shape the future of Animation within the School of Art and Art History, and to be able to expand the range of the program through interdisciplinary and unique creative research. An awareness of contemporary visual culture, and animation history and theory is highly desirable. The candidate should demonstrate expertise in two or more of the following areas: 2D Animation, 3D Animation and Visual Storytelling, Character Design, 3D Modeling, Motion Graphics, Digital Illustration/ Concept Art, Character Rigging, and Character Animation. Knowledge of software for instruction includes: Adobe After Effects, Toon Boom Harmony, and the CC Suite of software for 2D animation. Experience with Autodesk Maya for 3D animation, Zbrush, Cinema 4D, Unity 3D, Unreal, or Substance Designer is a plus. Minimum two years teaching after completion of MFA is preferred.
