Assistant Professor, Art and Technology/Interactive Design

The Art + Design Department invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Art and Technology/Interactive Design to begin August 2024. The successful candidate will be expected to guide and implement an Art and Technology/Interactive Design curriculum related to a program that serves a diverse population of undergraduate majors and will be able to teach a variety of interactive design and art + technology studio courses at multiple levels in an art and design curriculum. The Art + Design Department at NEIU strives to increase diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in our community. We are particularly interested in candidates who embed social impact into teaching and professional/creative work.

List of Responsibilities:
● Teaching foundation, introductory and advanced interactive design, and art and technology courses;
● Curriculum development, mentoring of students, and advising;
● Management of the digital fabrication studio and the equipment associated with courses taught;
● Service to the department, university, community, and profession is expected;
● Successful candidates will demonstrate an interest in collaboration on developing an advanced degree in Interactive Design, Experiential Design, or similar.

List of Qualifications:
● MFA or MDES in Art and Technology, Digital Arts, Interaction/Experience Design or related field;
● Expertise in digital fabrication (3D modeling, 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC, etc.), interactive design,
expanded media, new media, interactive arts, and/or creative coding;
● Experience teaching all levels of interactive design and/or art and technology courses;
● Strong record of applied work and/or exhibitions that reflect a creative practice utilizing digital arts technology;
● Creatively and critically engaged in the practices and discourses of Interactive/New Media Art and Design;
● The candidate will have an interdisciplinary approach to teaching that engages in emerging technologies as well as relationships across multiple disciplines, such as traditional art practices, the humanities, and the sciences;
● Demonstrates a student-centered and equity-minded approach to teaching and learning.
