Assistant Professor in 3D Animation, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

The Department of the Arts and the Program in Games and Simulation Arts & Sciences (GSAS) in the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in 3D Animation to begin Fall 2023.
The successful candidate must hold an M.F.A., Ph.D. or foreign degree equivalent in animation, digital art, or a related field and have evidence of successful teaching experience at the collegiate level. A minimum of three years of professional experience with an emerging national reputation as an artist and/or scholar is preferred. We seek candidates who will guide undergraduate and graduate students in developing technical proficiency, creative vision, and critical perspective in animation, games, and experimental media art. The ideal candidate will have expertise in one or more digital 3D art areas such as modeling, animation, rigging, visual effects, lighting, rendering, cinematography, technical art, or other related techniques. Experience in one or more of the software applications used in the animation and game development courses is desired, including Maya, ZBrush, Houdini, Blender, Substance Painter, Unity, or Unreal Engine.

The Department of Arts features an integrated and multidisciplinary approach to the arts with a focus on the use of experimental techniques and methodologies in artistic conception, creation, and performance. The program in Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences (GSAS) is a nationally recognized interdisciplinary program with concentrations in computer science, cognitive science, art and animation, music and game audio, management, and game writing and narrative design. GSAS offers a B.S. in Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences and the M.S. and Ph.D. in Critical Game Design.
