The Entertainment Technology department at City Tech invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position teaching Game Design and Development to start in the fall 2022 academic semester in our Emerging Media Technology program.
The Emerging Media Technology program currently offers courses in:
- Game Design & Interactive Media
- Media Computation
- Physical Computing
- Music Technology
- 3D Modeling & Printing
- Immersive Worlds & Mixed Reality
Graduates seek careers as web & mobile app designers/developers, interaction & experience designers, game designers/developers, hardware & software developers, virtual and augmented reality creators, 3D modelers, sound designers, interactive media systems & museum installation designers across commercial, social change and art sectors.
Reporting to the department chair, responsibilities of the Assistant Professor include teaching introductory and advanced game design and immersive media, as well as collaborative courses, Technical Production and Interdisciplinary Project, and overseeing culmination projects. The preferred candidate is an experienced professional with experience in making 2D & 3D games for web, mobile, VR/AR and various platforms.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A terminal degree (MFA, MPS, or Ph.D. degree) in related area(s) of expertise. Requirements include the ability to teach effectively, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The preferred candidate would have a portfolio of professional commercial and creative work that showcases the candidate’s proficiency with industry standard technologies, as well as curriculum development experience.
The ideal candidate will have five plus years of experience in an emerging media industry along with University-level teaching experience. The preferred candidate will be well versed in game design, 3D modeling, virtual and augmented reality with a secondary expertise in either physical computing or music technology. Proficiency with Unity, Unreal, Maya, Blender, Oculus, Vive, and Hololens as well as familiarity with programming languages C#, C++ and blueprints, is expected. Experience with motion capture pipelines, ambisonic sound design, 360 video stitching, performance systems, the internet of things and media computation is a plus. City Tech students are career-focused, so a candidate with an emphasis on or experience with practical and industry applications of emerging media technology is especially desirable. Grant application experience and industry support for educational initiatives is also desirable.
