The Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia invites applicants for a position at the rank of Assistant Professor with a focus on sculpture and technologies, with expansive, divergent approaches to creating. The anticipated start date is August 2023.
Responsibilities:
The School of Art looks to hire an innovative practitioner to bring progressive making and creative ideas to the field’s future, to develop new approaches to sculptural research and instruction, and expanding the integration of spatial work within a diverse art school. The successful candidate will be a passionate teacher and critical artist within the broad range of practices such as fabrication, modeling and output, installation, mixed reality, haptic media, social practice, intersectional and non-western perspectives on making, collaborative or open-source practice, or any other sculptural and interdisciplinary approaches.
The successful candidate will pursue an active research program, teach a 2/2 load of courses at undergraduate and graduate levels, and participate in service at the school and University levels. The successful candidate will become a vital member of the Lamar Dodd School of Art community and university at large. Faculty members are expected to support the college’s goals of creating and sustaining a diverse and inclusive learning environment through their scholarship, teaching, mentoring, and professional service.
Other responsibilities:
- Develop and teach courses in Sculpture and the School of Art with an expansive approach
- Participate in the University’s research cluster of AI and Data Science
- Assist in maintaining and overseeing the sculpture area
- Teach courses related to the candidate’s main area of research or related topics
This position is part of a multi-year Presidential Hiring Initiative across the university which will hire 50 new faculty to develop our research focus on AI and Data Science.
