Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) in Interactive Media – School of Interactive Arts and Technology
We welcome applicants for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in Interactive Media with demonstrated research expertise in the structure, practice and interpretation of interactive digital media. They will have deep knowledge of and experience in using interactive digital media in collaboration with external communities. They will have a demonstrated knowledge of and accomplishment in Indigenous research methodologies, interdisciplinary innovation, and community engagement. Ideally, they will have a demonstrable history of community involvement, and an Indigenous lived experience including working with First Nations, Inuit or Métis communities and organizations in North America/Turtle Island. A PhD is required, and preference will be given to a candidate with a research program in any of the following areas: research-creation; immersive art experience; artificial intelligence; game design; digital video; animation; interactive narrative; or, digital storytelling.
SIAT supports new ways of focusing on interactive digital media. The successful applicant will join a school of diverse and engaged faculty and be a key member of its interactive digital media focus. Current SIAT research in interactive digital media includes e-health, participatory media production, virtual and augmented reality, mediation of cultural heritage, collaborative and decolonizing methodologies, computational creativity, embodied interaction, and computational design. Applicants are expected to articulate or demonstrate how their research program has attracted and can attract significant external funding. SIAT expects that applicants will also develop successful collaborations with other faculty members in our highly interdisciplinary environment, across SFU, and nationally and/or internationally. Applicants should have teaching experience at the undergraduate level and a strong potential for instructional innovation. All SIAT faculty must have a high degree of technological literacy regardless of their disciplinary background.
Simon Fraser University (SFU) at Surrey is the University’s newest campus located in the greater Vancouver region of British Columbia. The area is home to Canada’s cultural and entertainment industry and much of its digital media production. SIAT works as a unit of the Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology (FCAT), which includes the School of Communication, the School for the Contemporary Arts, the Publishing Program, and the Master of Digital Media Program (MDM).
