Though this term is commonly used to describe what we consider to be intermachine communication, it can also be used to describe a state of interpersonal and human-to-machine interaction as well. Alternatively, hyperconnectivity is used as a medical term to describe a rapid firing of neurons making excessive connections within the brain.
The Scenes and Screens Festival committee encourages those submitting to consider the impact of all existing connections in our society, both organic and digital. Some ideas to pursue include but are not limited to the following topics: attention mining, artificial intelligence, biological enhancement, fractured identities, organism vs machine, and technological singularity.
The run of the festival will take place within AltspaceVR over a week-long showcase of in-world events that will be carefully curated around this year’s theme. The works presented at the Scenes and Screens Festival will be documented and archived by AltspaceVR through a series of live-streams, which will also be provided to the artists involved as their personal takeaway.
The Screens and Scenes Festival will be held between June 4th and June 10th, 2018.
Applications for Scenes and Screens Festival should be received by no later than 11:59PM PT, May 7th, 2018. Chosen works will be notified of their selection by May 21st.
All works submitted must be completed at the point of submission and follow all guidelines for their categories, which are listed below.
The AltspaceVR committee will be looking through the works submitted and will choose which ones will be included in the program this year. All those accepted for the festival, or those who may represent them, must be able to present the submitted work in-world through a 2D browser or in VR. AltspaceVR reserves the right to not choose any work for this festival as the decision of the committee is final.
