Lecturer Full-Time Temporary in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Science (GISc)
Position Description
The School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (IAS) at the University of Washington Bothell (UW Bothell) seeks a dynamic educator in geographic information systems (GIS) and science (GISc) for a Lecturer Full-Time Temporary position.The desired candidate for this position will have expertise in teaching GIS in an interdisciplinary context to students with varying degrees of expertise. Successful candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to innovative and effective pedagogy; ability to address questions of diversity, equity and inclusion in courses; and expertise in working with diverse student populations. The candidate will be responsible for teaching a seven course load over three quarters in the areas of Geographic Information Science and Geovisualization. Other courses may include areas of individual specialty or research.
There are a wide variety of interdisciplinary degree programs in IAS that incorporate or center on GIS courses. These programs include Conservation and Restoration Science, Earth System Science, Environmental Studies, and Data Visualization, as well as newly formed minors in GIS, Data Analytics, and Data Science.
We are seeking a candidate to join our faculty on a Full Time Temporary (100%) basis for a 9-month service period. Positions in this title are non-tenure track and not promotion eligible. Reappointments are contingent upon instructional needs, performance and funding, and limited to 3 consecutive annual appointments. The start date is September 16, 2024. The base salary range for this position will be $68.000 – $76.000 per year (nine months), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research/scholarship and service.
Qualifications
Minimum requirements for the position include:
• Ph.D. or equivalent professional experience required by time of appointment. This search is also open to PhD students in the advanced stages of their program
• Demonstrated experience in teaching GIS from introductory to advanced levels to undergraduates.
• Demonstrated commitment to innovative, inclusive and effective pedagogy
• Demonstrated ability to teach courses in areas of specialization in the context of an interdisciplinary curriculum.
• Demonstrated ability to address questions of diversity, equity and inclusion in courses and scholarship
• Expertise in working with diverse student populations
