Lecturer Full-Time Temporary in Interdisciplinary Arts

Position Description

The School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (IAS) at the University of Washington Bothell (UW Bothell) seeks a dynamic educator in Photography & Interdisciplinary Art for a Lecturer Full-Time Temporary position.
The successful candidate will have expertise in interdisciplinary pedagogy and portfolio-based teaching; a demonstrated commitment to innovative and effective pedagogy; ability to address questions of diversity, equity and inclusion in courses; and expertise in working with diverse student populations. The candidate will be responsible for teaching a seven course load over three quarters in the areas of photography and interdisciplinary art, including one large-enrollment (90 students)100-level Intro to Photography course. Other courses may include areas of specialty, e.g. other forms of visual art and design, art history, and graduate-level workshops and seminars in the MFA in Creative Writing and Poetics. We are seeking a candidate to join our faculty on a Full-Time Temporary (100%) basis for a 9-month service period. Positions in this title are non-tenure track and not promotion eligible. Reappointments are contingent upon instructional needs, performance and funding, and limited to 3 consecutive annual appointments. The start date is September 16, 2024. The base salary range for this position will be $68.000 – $76.000 per year (nine months), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research/scholarship and service.
Qualifications
Minimum requirements for the position include:
• Ph.D., MFA, or equivalent professional experience required by time of appointment. This search is also open to PhD students in the advanced stages of their program
• Demonstrated commitment to innovative and effective pedagogy
• Demonstrated ability to teach courses in Photography and Visual Media Art
• Demonstrated ability to address questions of diversity, equity and inclusion in courses and scholarship
• Expertise in working with diverse student populations

Lecturers hired into this role can expect to teach a selection of the following courses, depending on expertise and need:
– BIS 132 Introduction to Photography (90 students, 100% online option)
– Interdisciplinary Arts 200-400 level studio/workshop classes
– Interdisciplinary Arts courses that connect with adjacent programs in Culture, Literature, and the Arts; Media and Communication Studies; MFA Creative Writing program
