
Lecturer in Animation and Game Art, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
The Department of the Arts and the Program in Games and Simulation Arts & Sciences (GSAS) in the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute invite applications for a Lecturer in Animation and Game Art to begin Fall 2023. This full-time faculty position supports the animation tracks in the Electronic Arts major and the GSAS majors. We seek an artist working in digital 3D media such as animation, games, virtual reality, or new media art.
The successful candidate must hold an M.F.A., Ph.D. or foreign degree equivalent in animation, digital art, game design, or a related field and have evidence of successful teaching experience at the collegiate level. A minimum of three years of professional experience is preferred. The ideal candidate will have expertise in one or more digital 3D art areas, such as modeling, sculpting, or animation. Additional areas of interest include visual effects, lighting and rendering, cinematography, rigging, technical art, compositing, character or environment design, game art, or virtual reality. Experience in one or more software applications used in animation and game development is desired, including Maya, ZBrush, Houdini, Blender, Substance Painter, Unity, or Unreal Engine.

The Department of the Arts in the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences at Rensselaer is home to one of the first Electronic Arts programs in the country. The B.S. and Ph.D. in Electronic Arts include animation, studio art, sound art, music, and music technology, digital filmmaking, multimedia installation, augmented and virtual reality, experimental games, performance art, bio-art, internet art, and other experimental media at the intersection of art, science, and technology. Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences is an interdisciplinary program with concentrations that include computer science, cognitive science, art and animation, music and game audio, management, and game writing and narrative design. Graduates from the Electronic Arts and GSAS programs have gone on to work at studios such as Disney Animation, Dreamworks Animation, Bethesda Softworks, thatgamecompany, and Vicarious Visions, as well as pursuing careers as media artists, filmmakers, and independent game developers.
