Lecturer in Game Design, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

The Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences Program (GSAS) in the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute invites applications for a Lecturer in Game Design to begin in Fall 2023. This full-time faculty position supports the core curriculum in game design and development in the GSAS major. We seek applicants with a passion for making games; a strong record of research, creative practice, or professional accomplishment; and demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching at the college level.
The successful candidate must hold an M.F.A., Ph.D., or foreign degree equivalent in game design or a related field such as interactive media design, digital art, computer science, or human-computer interaction. The ideal candidate will have expertise in game design, familiarity with digital game development platforms, and the ability to guide students in interdisciplinary collaborative projects at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced level.

Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences is an interdisciplinary program housed in the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences with faculty in the departments of Arts; Communication and Media; Cognitive Science; and Science and Technology Studies. The B.S. in Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences provides a core curriculum in game design and development, with Concentrations in Computer Science, Cognitive Science, Electronic Arts, Music, Management, and Writing. The M.S. and Ph.D. in Critical Game Design offer a unique combination of theory and practice, connecting game studies and critical design with game development. GSAS is a designated New York State Center of Excellence in Digital Game Development, working to advance the games industry in New York in partnership with commercial studios, nonprofit community organizations, and economic development agencies.

Graduates from the GSAS programs have gone on to work at studios such as Blizzard, Riot Games, Rockstar Games, Electronic Arts, Velan Studios, Bethesda Softworks, thatgamecompany, 2K Visual Concepts, Heart Machine and PUBG, as well as pursuing careers as media artists and independent game developers.
