Multimedia & Visual Communication Professors | Lecturers at American University of Sharjah

The College of Architecture, Art and Design (CAAD) at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) invites applications for multiple teaching positions in the Department of Art and Design.

AUS is a leading comprehensive coeducational university in the Gulf, based on the North American model with liberal arts and sciences integrated with professional education. All courses are taught in English. CAAD currently offers five undergraduate degrees (Architecture, Interior Design, Visual Communication, Multimedia Design, and Design Management) and one graduate degree (Urban Planning). Degree programs are accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (USA) and by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The Department of Art and Design offers minors in Design Management, Film, Illustration and Animation, Photography, and Product Design.

Regular faculty appointments are initially made as a three-year contract; after a second three-year contract, faculty are reviewed for a four-year rolling contract, the equivalent of tenure at North American universities. Salaries are attractive and commensurate with qualification and experience, and come with an attractive benefits package including housing and annual travel. Visiting appointments are for one semester or one academic year; salary and benefits are the same as for regular appointments.

The ability and interest to teach beginning design in our first year foundation program would be a significant asset but is not essential. Besides teaching, faculty are required to mentor students through an established advising process, engage in scholarly activities and participate in service activities for the college, university and community. Applicants should have demonstrated leadership skills and experience, plus an excellent record of teaching and scholarship (or the potential for developing such a record, if at the Assistant Professor rank).

The Search Committee will begin reviewing applications immediately. Applicants should send a Letter of Interest outlining fit with position requirements and highlighting key accomplishments in teaching, practice, scholarship, and service. Also attach Curriculum Vitae, contact information for three references, a digital portfolio of professional work and examples of student work. Application material must be packaged in a single PDF file clearly labeled with the applicant’s name. Submit in confidence to “Art and Design Search Committee” at the following email address: dessearch@aus.edu. Incomplete applications will not be considered and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. AUS is fully committed to equal opportunity at all levels without discrimination on the basis of race, gender, religion, age, family status, or national origin.
