Professor of Practice in Digital Media for Social Justice and Community Well-Being – Tulane University
The Digital Media Practices Program at Tulane University in New Orleans seeks a full-time Professor of Practice in Digital Media for Community Health and Well-Being (3-year appointment, renewable) to begin July 2023.
We seek someone with proven experience teaching media production in collaboration with and for community needs. This position strengthens the connections between the Digital Media Practices program and social justice and community well-being initiatives at Tulane and the greater Gulf South region. The ideal candidate’s artistic work and teaching should reflect their interest in exploring these themes through media practices such as filmmaking, podcasting, game design, or a combination of these mediums. The candidate selected would be expected to stay up to date with new technologies, be proficient with the program’s current equipment and software, and provide new options using low-cost, everyday equipment where appropriate.
Teaching responsibilities would include an introductory production class in either filmmaking, podcasting, or game design; Digital Media for Community Health and Well-being; and additional production classes as needed (3/3 Load). Additional responsibilities include curricular planning, creation, and coordination with the other Digital Media Practices Program members, as well as advising students academically and professionally.
Tulane’s Digital Media Practices Program educates students in the art, craft, and technology of the inherently interdisciplinary field of Digital Media. The program offers intensive, hands-on production experience through courses dedicated to film and audio production, screenwriting, documentary filmmaking, cinematography, color-grading, digital art, games, theater, media theory, and film analysis. The Digital Media Practices program is co-curricular with the Communication, English, Theater, Dance, Art, and Music Departments and the Film Studies Program. Students may choose from a wide array of courses in one of several focus areas: Narrative Filmmaking, Documentary and Non-fiction Filmmaking, Sound Practice, Interactive Media, Creative Coding, and Games. Many of our students choose to write, cast, produce, direct, shoot, and edit their short films fulfilling their senior capstone project requirement.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates for this position will demonstrate a robust body of work; or will hold a terminal degree in media production (MFA or PhD) or a related field by June 30, 2023.
