The Integrated Digital Media (IDM) Program is a place that fosters creative practice, design research and multidisciplinary experimentation with emerging media technologies. As a research-active program within NYU Tandon School of Engineering, IDM faculty collaborate in research that integrates digital media and society. Our projects use motion capture technology, virtual/augmented reality, STEAM learning, digital fabrication tools such as 3d printers, and citizen science techniques, among many others, as we incorporate emerging technologies across design and socially engaged contexts.
IDM has grown substantially over the last five years and is the home to almost 400 undergraduate and graduate students. The program has been increasingly supporting a mixed portfolio of media production hardware, including multiple motion capture systems, VR headsets, etc. as well as fabrication equipment to support faculty research and student work.
