Technician Position – Integrated Digital Media, New York University
Responsible for daily operations of numerous labs and equipment for the Integrated Digital Media program. Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs laboratory equipment. Support Faculty, students and staff within IDM in the daily operations of the labs/equipment.
The Integrated Digital Media (IDM) Program is a place that fosters creative practice, design research and multidisciplinary experimentation with emerging media technologies. As a research-active program within NYU Tandon School of Engineering, IDM faculty collaborate in research that integrates digital media and society. Our projects use motion capture technology, virtual/augmented reality, STEAM learning, digital fabrication tools such as 3d printers, and citizen science techniques, among many others, as we incorporate emerging technologies across design and socially engaged contexts.
IDM has grown substantially over the last five years and is the home to almost 400 undergraduate and graduate students. The program has been increasingly supporting a mixed portfolio of media production hardware, including multiple motion capture systems, VR headsets, etc. as well as fabrication equipment to support faculty research and student work.
Required Education: Associate’s Degree
Preferred Education: Master’s Degree

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Communication skills, organizational skills, ability to use industry-standard fabrication and media equipment, with a focus on additive manufacturing (3D printing) and expanded reality equipment (AR/VR).
Provide support for purchasing, maintenance, repair, and upkeep of IDM fabrication, physical computing, and applied media equipment including the Black Box motion capture system, the Fabrication Lab, equipment purchased for the labs in the new 370 Jay Street location, and other physical research amenities. Provide training and support for faculty, students, and staff on said equipment, and scheduling of equipment use and maintenance for optimizing student work and faculty research. Work with IDM faculty to support the IDM Equipment Room in terms of hardware resources for students.
