Description:
The Photography and Digital Media program within the School of Art at the University of Houston, a Tier One public research university, seeks applications for a Lecturer of Photography and Digital Media position to begin fall 2019. This is a full-time, one-year contract. The program seeks candidates with the potential for excellence in teaching and a clear commitment to enhancing the diversity of the faculty, graduate, and undergraduate student population. The successful candidate will have an active fine art practice at the forefront of contemporary photography, video or digital media. Areas of focus could include: video, data-based imagery, work with digital archives, appropriation, digital manipulation, collage, compositing, experimental film, 3D animation, motion graphics, three-dimensional printing, performance-based video or photography, installation-based photography, hybrid studio practice, multimedia forms and work that makes experimental use of online platforms.

Situated in the School of Art in the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts, the Photography and Digital Media Program supports a dynamic group of graduates and undergraduates actively engaged with fine art and conceptual aspects of lens-based and other media-based processes. The University of Houston is one of the most diverse universities in the country and is a Hispanic-serving institution. The College of the Arts is an important player in the vibrant and rapidly expanding arts scene of Houston. The 2019-2020 academic year will be an exciting time for the program, as the Photography and Digital Media Program will be hosting the annual international conference of the Society for Photographic Education in March.

Responsibilities
Teaching responsibilities will include introductory and advanced courses. The successful candidate will be able to teach foundation, intermediate and advanced digital photography and/or video and studio courses for BFA majors in the candidate’s area of expertise. The teaching load is three courses in both the fall and spring semesters.

Minimum Qualifications
MFA in Photography, Digital Media or Video.

Preferred Qualifications
College level teaching experience (minimum one year) in a BFA photography or digital media program; active exhibitions record and other evidence of creative/critical practice; familiarity with art history and theory; and proficiency with foundation and advanced media software. The successful candidate will also be able to demonstrate skills or experience that would aid in serving a diverse student population (these could include, but are not limited to, bilingualism; expertise in Queer, African diaspora, or gender studies; and the ability to address contemporary Latin American and Latinx Art theory).
